Town Hall Meeting Reactions

Town Hall Reactions
As I watched my fellow members present during the Town Hall meeting, I found myself candidly intrigued by some of their stories and responses. Today, I'd like to share summaries of the ones that captured my attention the most.

Starting off, I'd like to introduce Leonard Grimes, An African American Abolitionist and clergyman for president Lincoln. After registering his freedom, Grimes became a conductor of the Underground Railroad. Grimes later took the risk in 1854 in attempting to save Anthony Burns from the Boston jail after he was captured from his church. Unfortunately, the original plan failed, but Grimes did not stop there. He decided to raise money for Anthony Burns' release and further more decided to purchase Burns' freedom as well. Because of this act of bravery, fugitive slaves were no longer persecuted in Boston.

Another great name to mention would be Araminta Ross, other wise known as the infamous Harriet Tubman. Harriet became one of the most popular and well-known Underground Railroad conductors to live. She was so good at at her job, that both the slaves she freed as well as those she intended to free began calling her by the name Moses, which was a Hebrew Prophet of the 13th Century BCE. Harriet was able to free 300 enslaved people while making trips through Maryland and Canada, 70 of which were family and friends.

Lastly, I'd like to acquaint you with women's right activist, abolitionist, and suffragist,Susan B. Anthony Susan was known for her help that created the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. Her work now allows women off the present to vote. Another also used her home to house meetings for former abolitionists such as Fredrick Douglass and William Lloyd Garrison. In 1854, Susan also took further steps to stop slavery by becoming an agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society.
